I've always loved creating things out of wood. I love witnessing the transformation of just a piece of wood turn into something so much more. I'm by no means an expert, I am still learning and growing in my wood carving abilities with every single project. I just thought I'd share my journey along the way!

Good video. Only thing that would improve it is to include stropping the tools when they need it. Because it IS part of the process viewers should see it. Don't know why educational/how-to creators leave those steps out.
Thanks for your recommendation. The reason I didn’t was because sharpening and stropping is honestly a full length video in itself. I’m hoping to make a video at some point in the future covering it. There are a lot of great videos out there currently that cover it really well.
@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC Really? You don't strop tools during work? It doesn't take me long to run an edge 6-12 times along the leather. Even if you stop to sharpen then strop it should only take a minute or two. Seriously, a separate video to show you stropping a tool while carving a project isn't needed. But showing it as part of the project when you do it IS needed. Newcomers & those who are considering trying carvers are given the wrong impression by any video that doesn't show it.
Very cool!
Thanks!
When does this come out?
It’s available now at woodcarvingillustrated.com
Very nice.
Thank you
Awesome job man! Love the video, keep up the great work!
Thanks!

Interesting, I think that look on the tree detail really makes it look like its far more intricately detailed than it is and kinda has the feel of those old ridiculously detailed carvings of like 50 people and 100 trees all in a box the size of a walnut. I really like it.
Thanks for the watch and comment
NIce to see a hobby slower than my Model Rrilroaidng. Pretty work.
I appreciate it. We have to keep these old school hobbies alive!
Looks great!
Thanks!
Do you use a respirator or something for the dust? If so what kind?
I use a filtered mask I got on amazon called an RZ mask.

Love how you highlight what tools you use.
I’ll keep doing that for my how to videos.
I have a question for you, I’m trying to better my collection of tools and was wondering what size and sweep spoon gouge do you use most?
It really depends on size and depth of the carving. I find myself using my veiner(#11) 14mm quite often, but I honestly don't have a huge collection of spoon gouges. I'm hoping to add more in the future. I'm also always using the small spoon V-gouge that's featured in this video. It's really easy to handle and control. What size carvings do you usually carve and how deep are they?
Thank you for your response! I actually am a power carver but am getting tired of wearing a mask and the loud noise. I am interested in the depth you do in your portraits. I love all those you’ve done. I’m putting an order together for 4 or 5 gouges plus a chisel that’s coming from Canada and I keep changing my mind on which ones. Also, I was wondering what chisels and skews do you use? Thanks for your help.
I just realized my last question is very broad. I have a 1/12, what size would you get next?
Well if you don’t have a V gouge I would definitely get one of those. I’d get a smaller shallower gouge to help with tight spots. I have a #3 5mm that works good. Then I’d get a collection of different sweeps at the 12 - 16mm range. A #3, #5, and #7. If you can a veiner is an amazing gouge to add to your collection as well.
Ok cool I’m on the right track then. I just need a a larger #5. Was skeptical about getting another chisel over other gouges that I need.
